NOTES FOR CHOIR TRAINERS Grades and Reports

  1. For the Dean's Award the candidate's choice of music does not have to be restricted to the recommended list; it is published for guidance only.
For the Bishop's Award, two pieces of music must be chosen, one from list A and one from list B.

  2. Particular emphasis is placed in the Bishop's Award on intonation, voice production and tone, diction, and on the confidence and clarity of the sound.

  3. In psalms, it may be preferable to use a well-known chant, since more attention can then be devoted to the text; nevertheless, the chant chosen should be appropriate to the text.

  4. In addition to their own copies and those for the accompanist, candidates must bring with them two copies of all prepared music for the examiners, ie. a total of four copies. Unauthorised photocopies may not be used. This applies to both the Dean's and Bishop's Awards.

  5. Candidates must state on the entry form which hymn book they propose to use.

  6. Choir trainers are responsible for providing their own accompanist for the prepared items. If no accompanist is provided on the day of the examination the candidate may choose to sing unaccompanied or not to proceed with the examination.

  7. Candidates are not permitted to record the examination.

  8. Should any choir trainer or examinee have a grievance as to the conduct of any examination this shall be referred to the Honorary Secretary for decision by the Chairman or by those deputed by the Chairman. Discussions between the aggrieved and the examiner at the time of the examination will not be entertained in any circumstances.
